After more than 150 years the paper making industry in Garioch has come to a stop. If you looked north from Kintore today, there was no telltale steam plume to tell you the direction of the wind. Nothing.
Yes, the Inverurie Paper Mill – opened by Thomas Tait & Sons Ltd in 1852 and taken over by International Paper of Memphis in 1996 – has ceased. With it have gone some 370 jobs and a century-and-a-half of proud manufacture of fine paper.
