A survey seeking views on future library provision in communities around Aberdeenshire is now underway.
As part of Aberdeenshire Council’s budget-setting process, savings have been identified for the library services and the possibility of the closure fo some facilities in smaller villages was outline.
Since then Live Life Aberdeenshire has been working hard to lock at alternative ways of achieving savings by taking a broader view of how library services are provided.
“The needs of individual communities and customers want to access the services are at the forefront of us as our opportunities to deliver services in different ways,” explains Janet Newberry, Senior Library Assistant at Kintore Library.
“it is hoped that the new opening hours combined with a focus on what customers need from the library can generate the savings required with minimal impact on community life. For example where communities identify law requirement for physical library services, alternative provision such as postal services, services delivered from other local premises, or outreach workers could be considered.”
Community is encouraged to give their views on local libraries via the survey which will then inform future decisions by councillors. The survey is open to the end of February at https://online.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/apps/news/release.aspx?newsID=5619
