There was dismay at last night’s Kintore and District Community Council meeting when it was revealed the opening date for the new Kintore rail station had been pushed back to May 2020. Originally the station was due to open in 2009
, so this latest delay means Kintore rail station will actually be 11 years late. In February last year it was stated that the station would open in December 2019.
The meeting was told that the delay of almost six months has resulted from the project changing from local management through NESTRANS
to the Scottish Government and its transport arm, Transport Scotland.
Aberdeenshire councillors at the community council meeting expressed their disappointment at the delay. “Funding has been in place for six months,” Councillor Fergus Hood pointed out, saying that the problem seemed to have resulted from changing the funding to Transport Scotland.
“The station has always been a nine month timescale,” Councillor Glen Reid stated. “So, why is it now a 12-month timescale. This has come out of the blue.”
Councillor Ford asked the Network Rail representative at the meeting to see if the Kintore Rail Station could be added into the new timetable, with a note to see local information for the station opening date. That way the station could open as soon as it was finished. He said this was what happened with with Laurencekirk.
