Flood Scheme public consultation event

Those who were affected by the flooding in Kintore, Port Elphinstone, Inverurie and Kemnay in January 2016, will vividly recall the events of that month.

Recently new concerns have been raised with the possibility of a huge viaduct over the River Don flood plain at Kintore, if the blue-green-violet option for the A96 were to be selected by Transport Scotland.

Aberdeenshire Council appointed Dougall Baillie Associates / JBA Consulting in late 2017 to carry out a Flood Scheme Appraisal Studies for Inverurie/Port Elphinstone, Ellon and Insch.

Over the past 12 months the consultants have been making progress with the study at Inverurie (including Port Elphinstone) and the first of two public consultation events for this community takes place on Thursday,
February 14 at 7.00pm - 9.00pm, at Inverurie Academy (Assembly Hall).

The aim of this meeting will be to give everyone an opportunity to agree the area and magnitude of flooding that is being presented, with specific reference to the January 2016 flood event.

The team will be presenting the results of the data gathering, particularly the hydraulic modelling of the watercourses, through demonstration of the flood extent maps and they invite you to come along and see these outputs.

A second public consultation will be held to present the preferred option(s) for flood protection, in summer 2019.
