Garioch Heritage Centre buy-out plan

The Garioch Heritage Centre opened in October 2017 and houses the collections of Garioch Heritage Society. It is located in the renovated Inverurie Loco Works.
In addition to historical information and artefacts and displays that tell the story of the Garioch, the centre has a gift shop, cafe and activities for children.
Until now the centre has operated under a Management Agreeement with the owners of the building. But the registered charity has been told that the best way to secure the long-term future of the centre is to use the Scottish Land Fund to support a community buy out.
“We need people to come forward and support us,” says chairman Nora Radcliffe, “as applications to the Scottish Land Fund are only considered where real community support can be demonstrated.”
To learn more about the plans and to show support for the buy-out the Garioch Heritage Centres has arranged two meetings, one in the afternoon and one in the evening to allow as many people as possible to come along:
Thursday, April 26 at 2pm and Thursday, May 3 at 7pm. Both meetings are in the Garioch Heritage Centre, Locoworks Road, lnverurie AB51 4FY (off Harlaw Road, behind Aldi).
At the meeting the implications of a community buy-out will be explained and the meeting will be opened for questions and ideas.
“Your participation at this stage is really, really important to show that local people are interested,” explains Nora Radcliffe, “but be reassured that coming along will not commit you to any future involvement beyond what you want to give.”
