Thainstone Business Park extension approved on appeal

The Scottish Government Reporter has granted planning permission, on appeal, for the extension of the business park on the hill at Thainstone.

Aberdeenshire Councillors had refused permission for the development in December 2016, over concerns about the damage to the landscape and fears about the impact the development would have on the local road network. There were a large number of local objections to the proposal, including one from Kintore and District Community Council.

The proposed business park extension will spread across 27 hectares of grazing land on the hillside, in the area marked red and pink below (the pink section was strategic reserve land designated not for development until 2027). This being above the existing Thainstone Business Park, it would extend commercial development to just below the ridge line in front of Bennachie.

The yellow area to the right is proposed for housing development.

The business park extension is expected to facilitate a new abattoir planned for the fields to the left of the Thainstone Centre.
