Community council calls for landscape area extension

Kintore and District Community Council has written to Aberdeenshire Council requesting an extension to the proposed Bennachie Landscape Area.

The community council wants the special landscape area to be extended to include Tom’s Forest, John’s Forest, Camiestone, Shaw Hill and Bruce’s Camp.

The community council believes the ridge line in front of Bennachie (see picture below) is important to the setting of much-loved hill, when viewed from the current A96 corridor. This is probably one of the most viewed angles for Bennachie, both for locals and for visitors to the area.

“The consultation document confirms the importance of the setting of Bennachie and its intervisibility with the surrounding landscape and is very important and special to the community of Kintore and the surrounding area,” Kintore and District Community Council say in their submission.

“We strongly feel therefore that its iconic profile and historic features sited in the area should not be blighted by insensitive development that would have any negative impact on the vista.”
