Plans submitted for Sainsbury's Local at Midmill

A planning application has been submitted for the demolition of existing buildings at Midmill and the development of four retail or commercial units and a hot-food takeaway unit at Midmill in Kintore.

The development by Castleglen Investments proposes one larger shop 395 sq m unit, flanked by two smaller units either side of 97 sq m each on part of the site of the former Midmill filling station and adjoining food takeaway of

The large unit is the one that is due to open as a Sainsbury’s Local. It is comparable in size to the existing Co-op on Northern Road.

The retail statement submitted with the application says “The convenience store would provide primarily top up shopping within a limited catchment area up to 1km from the site. There would be strong emphasis on fresh and quality produce which is currently limited within this part of Kintore.”

The car park will have space for 31 cars.

The construction will be of roughcast block walls with metal cladding above.

The first redevelopment application for the site was for retail units, offices and a filling station. This application was lodged in May 2005 and covered the entire site, including the building on the east of the site, which is not included in this application.

The final date for any public comments to Aberdeenshire Council is July 17.
