Mary McMurtrie, of Balbithan House in Kintore, was described as Britain’s oldest working artist. When she died in 2003, aged 101, she had just completed proof reading her latest book of illustrations. She specialised in painting flowers and plants.
An exhibition is opening this Sunday in her former home, Balbithan House, celebrating the theme of botanical art with paintings by Mary McMurtrie, Julie Wyness and Alison D Brown. There are also crafts by Craftyweebirdie.
Admission to the exhibition, which runs from Sunday, May 26 to Sunday, June 16, is free. The exhibition is open Friday to Sunday from 12 noon to 4pm.
To get to Balbithan House, take the B977 to Hatton of Fintray and take the first turning, signposted Balbithan, up past Kintore Golf Club. At the top of the hill you will come to a cross roads where Balbithan House is straight ahead. (Take care, there is a blind crest on your left as you cross into the driveway.)
