Rainbow cloud over Kintore

Sammy Murray sent in this wonderful picture of a “rainbow cloud” over Kintore on Sunday afternoon, with the distinctive silhouette of the Town House in the foreground.

The scientific name for these clouds is nacreous clouds are formed in the stratosphere, where the environment is very dry and clouds rarely form. Because of the height from earth, these clouds receive sunlight from below the horizon. and reflect to the ground producing rainbow colours.
