No support for new residential development

Kintore Community Council will be aware that Kintore Primary School is currently at capacity.

Until such time as additional primary and pre-school capacity can be provided Aberdeenshire Council Planning Service will be unable to support any new residential development within the school’s catchment area, other than developments that already benefit from planning permission.

Kintore School

Kintore Primary School has reached capacity far sooner than expected for a number of reasons, not least because of a higher than anticipated number of children in much of the new housing in the settlement. Aberdeenshire Council has already extended the capacity of the school by 4 additional classrooms, with a further 2 to open this summer.

The Community Council will be aware that Aberdeenshire Council is currently preparing a Local Development Plan for Aberdeenshire which will, for Kintore, amongst other things be seeking to address this situation.

However, in the meantime the Planning Service has no alternative but to resist new development in Kintore which would have serious implications for primary and pre-school provision until such time as additional capacity can be provided, most likely through the provision of an additional school.

Aberdeenshire Council appreciates that this could lead to a situation where development proposals in and around Kintore, which in many cases may be able to bring other community benefits to Kintore and the wider area, eg the town park, will have to be held in abeyance meantime.

However it is of paramount importance that new developments are not permitted to place any greater pressure on the facilities that exist in Kintore, especially with regard to education provision.
